Managing your Closet

Managing your Closet

15th Feb 2014

I feel one of the biggest and most often conversations that I have with my clients is “there is too much in my closet”. I think most women have or have had this issue. We have a few tips for our ladies that seams to help.

First you all have some garbage in there you don’t want to let go of, first rule of thumb, if you haven’t worn it in two seasons, its out. Weeding out items you no longer wear will help ease the tension in you closet. Also, many women have garments they adore, but, something is just not right. Usually the garment needs a simple alteration. We are happy to help our clients get this resolved and also bring garments you have and still wear with you to our Boutique, to help us help you make them all into seamless outfits. Getting dressed each day shouldn’t be a chore. It should be Fun, a daily opportunity to empower yourself and feel confident and pretty. Our wardrobes are necessary, but a closet filled with out of date inventory is a recipe for zero fun. I like to share with my clients, don’t even get out of the bed without knowing what I am going to wear. You have an idea of the weather, is it July or January? What are you doing that day? Big day at work or Big date? By just having this conversation with yourself before the day gets started will help calm you mind and keep things from getting hectic. The goal is to walk into your closet, know exactly what you are going for, where it is and get dressed and live you life. A great way to sort out the closet is deal with the season you are not wearing. If its the middle of the winter, go thru the Spring / Summer items and weed out the bad, we all buy clothing ahead of when we are going to wear them, so your already ahead of the game. Instead of heading into the next season with all the same garments and then adding more. Too much in the closet. Does everything in your closet fit you? i know we previously discussed alterations, but I think you know what I mean. if your 54, like me, you probably should have anything in your closet from 3 decades ago. So, only have, up to date garments, that are your current size. Anytime a women goes for a garment from years ago and it doesn’t fit, also starts the chaotic fight between you and your closet. The tension builds, three outfits later you’re frustrated. Now, you have lost direction. Then your running late. Now your stressed out. This can all be avoided! Nobody needs 100s of garments, you need many ways to put what you have together in different ways. The old article we have all read 7 Foundation pieces that create 20 looks. This is true. The Foundation of a great wardrobe is true for everyone. Your closet needs, a great black dress, a great pair of trousers, a perfect pair of denim, a button up white color shirt, not 10 of them, a perfect Blazer, Layering pieces in black and white. The perfect pencil skirt. Then you build on this foundation and keep it fresh. Finally, I like to do two things with my goodbye garments, of course donate to a responsible charitable organization. Then also, look for a consignment store! This is not to get all your money back because you won’t get much at all, but, someone who may need a leg up can get a great outfit for less. I hope this was helpful and lets get those closets organized.
